GREAT BEAR RAVE - An International Success!

Pacific Wild partners with the International League of Conservation Photographers (iLCP) to showcase the Great Bear Rainforest with a R.A.V.E - Rapid Assessment Visual Expedition -and highlight the Enbridge proposal to ship crude oil through the Great Bear Rainforest.
Over the summer and fall of 2010 a team of top-level photojournalists chosen by the iLCP documented the Great Bear Rainforest in photos, video, audio, and words with a special focus on the marine world. iLCP and Pacific Wild will use the collected media to generate outreach initiatives and to flood major media organizations with stories of B.C.’s intent to lift the moratorium on tanker traffic.

Capturing the images on a RAVE is only half the battle. Now the iLCP and Pacific Wild must use the images in a visual action campaign to secure a legislated ban on oil super tanker traffic in the Great Bear Rainforest and stop the Enbridge pipeline. Although the main expedition of photography is now over, we have since held a successful press conference and hosted a premiere multimedia event in Vancouver. Armed with images from the RAVE, a delegation of first nations, business leaders and others traveled to Ottawa to present their case for an oil tanker ban on the B.C. North coast in November 2010, shortly before a private members bill was passed in Canada's House of Commons. Stay tuned for more information on upcoming traveling exhibits in 2012.
