Black Lives Matter

Our pledge to move forward consciously and intentionally, to use our platform to lift the voices of BIPOC activists and environmentalists on the BC coast and beyond.

Our team at Pacific Wild has been taking time to pause and reflect on the Black Lives Matter movement. We’re listening, we’re learning, and we know that we can and must do better to be actively anti-racist in our own communities. We recognize that we have a platform and a duty to call on our supporters to do the same. The era of complicity and ignorance to the suffrage of others needs to end. Being an ally takes work, and collectively, we’ve been slacking off. We need to do more.

As an organization, our work is focused on protecting wildlife and wild spaces. Where we work—an archipelago driven by sea-level interactions—we are feeling the effects of human-caused climate change every day. This type of environmental change cannot be achieved when social and racial injustices continue to put people at risk. For everyone to be an ally in the fight for our planet, we need everyone to be an ally in the fight for social justice. Social justice is climate justice; these issues are intrinsically linked.

The systems of oppression that continue to keep Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour (BIPOC) marginalized, underserved, and unsafe here in the Pacific Northwest and throughout the rest of the world are unacceptable. Our societal framework is broken and we all need to actively work together to restructure it. For far too long, white supremacy has diminished the voices and perspectives of BIPOC communities. This is an opportunity for people in positions of privilege and power to seek out the voices and perspectives of those communities, educate ourselves, and give them our platforms. We recognize the importance to voice those commitments publicly. In light of that, we pledge to move forward consciously and intentionally, to use our platform to lift the voices of BIPOC activists and environmentalists on the BC coast and beyond. We encourage you to listen to these individuals and support their words, experiences and communities.
