⚠️ Despite calls for a managed pause from First Nations chiefs, researchers, conservationists and community members, the Pacific herring Food and Bait fishery is opening at 4:00pm today in the Strait of Georgia with a quota of 2,100 short tons.

🐟This year, the Marine Conservation Caucus have chosen “to not endorse any harvest options for Strait of Georgia herring in 2024/2025”. Citing alongside many other organizations that DFO is continuing to develop harvest advice without considering the drastic changes in spawning over space and time in the Strait of Georgia, or the drivers of these changes.

👀Stay tuned for updates. We will be closely monitoring fishing activity and the herring spawn over the next few months.🌊
