The Great Bear Education and Research (GBEAR) Project is a project on MakeWay’s shared platform, which supports on-the-ground efforts to create uncommon solutions for the common good. MakeWay is a national Canadian charity dedicated to a healthy environment, social equity, and economic prosperity.

GBEAR is committed to defending wildlife and their habitat on Canada’s Pacific coast by developing and implementing solution-based conservation strategies. Formerly known as the Pacific Wild Initiative, GBEAR supports innovative research, public education, community outreach and awareness to achieve the goal of lasting environmental protection in the lands and waters of the Great Bear Rainforest. Working with conservation groups in the field, GBEAR is a partner in programs that elevate awareness of wildlife and habitat issues in this region.

GBEAR works to support the protection of endangered wildlife and rare ecosystems on the Pacific Coast through research and education-based endeavors. As a registered Canadian operating charity, MakeWay Charitable Society receives donations and provides charitable tax receipts for gifts to GBEAR initiatives.

MakeWay also provides organizational support to GBEAR, allowing us to spend more time in the field. GBEAR has adopted MakeWay’s HR and Accessibility Policies. We are committed to the principles of dignity, independence, integration and equal opportunity as described in the Accessibility Policy. We believe that helping to create a country, and an organization, where every person can fully participate benefits our people, our partners and our communities.
