PW’s Bryce Casavant Wins Bear Cub Legal Case

In 2015, Pacific Wild’s Senior Conservation Policy Analyst, Bryce Casavant defied orders while working with the B.C. Conservation Officer Service. He was instructed to euthanize two five-month-old bear cubs after their mother was caught eating salmon from a freezer. Instead, he made a different call, moving them to a rehabilitation facility which eventually released them back into the wild. He was then fired from his role and took that dismissal to court, which recently ruled in his favour.

Bryce made the right decision five years ago, which resulted in saving two bear cubs from a wrongful death. Now, he has ensured that all Conservation Officers in B.C. have the legal right to make similar decisions in the field. This will assuredly save more wildlife in the future and for that we are extremely proud and thankful. Thank you Bryce!
