🌲 Protecting Canada`s Old-Growth Forests 🌲
At Pacific Wild, we`re fighting to save Canada’s ancient old-growth forests and protect the biodiversity they sustain along the West Coast. These irreplaceable ecosystems are home to iconic wildlife like wolves, bears, and countless other species.
Pacific Wild co-founders, Karen and Ian McAllister have been on the frontlines of forest defense for decades: from protesting in the war of the woods in the 1990’s, to advocating for the protection of the Great Bear Rainforest which announced their historic collaborative agreement in 2016, to reporting on ongoing old growth logging, like the cutblocks made on the fringes of Cape Scott Provincial Park just this spring. Pacific Wild continues to be the eyes and ears on the ground sharing stories about these beautiful places we call home with the world, and we hope you will join us to fight for their protection. As British Columbia (B.C.) faces mounting threats to its wildlife, the Species at Risk Act (SARA) is intended to play a vital role in protecting vulnerable species like killer whales.
There are three distinct ecotypes of killer whales inhabiting B.C. waters – Bigg’s (Transient), Resident and Offshore – all of which are listed as threatened or endangered. This legislation helps to identify critical habitat and chart a course to protect species at risk, but it’s clear more action is needed. With the upcoming election, now is the time to ask candidates how they plan to strengthen protections for species and their habitats, including the iconic killer whale.
Our future leaders must prioritize conservation strategies that preserve ecosystems, enforce stronger habitat protection measures, and ensure that B.C.’s unique biodiversity thrives for generations to come.

Yesterday evening British Columbia’s provincial party leaders battled it out in a televised debate for an hour and a half, but environmental issues were hardly mentioned.
Our economy and well-being depends on a healthy environment. Increasing wildfires, floods, landslides, deforestation and biodiversity loss are critical issues affecting British Columbia which need to be addressed now.
Whether it is grizzly bears, wolves, old growth or climate change, ask your local candidate where they stand on conservation issues close to your heart and let them know that for you and many other British Columbians, nature is on the ballot.
