Fish Farms Out – Keep the Promise to Remove Open-Net Salmon Farms by 2029

Canada committed to remove salmon farms from B.C. waters by 2029 — but industry is lobbying hard to reverse the ban. Our voices must be louder.

Wild salmon are the lifeblood of B.C.’s coastal ecosystems, cultures, and economies. Open-net pen fish farms are driving them closer to collapse by spreading parasites and disease, polluting coastal waters, and putting vulnerable wild salmon at even greater risk.

In 2019, the federal government promised to remove open-net farms from B.C. waters by 2025. Now that commitment has been pushed to 2029; four more years wild salmon simply can’t afford.

Removing these farms has the support of over 120 First Nations, the majority of British Columbians, and countless scientists, conservationists, and Indigenous leaders.

Lend your voice to hold the government to its promise and protect wild salmon before it’s too late.

Send a letter below to urge the government to uphold their promise to finally ban open-net salmon farms by 2029.

Below is a pre-written message which will automatically be sent to Canada’s Fisheries Minister and other government representatives. You’re welcome to edit the letter or leave it as is.
