Take Action for Grizzly Bears

Take Action!

Grizzly bears are a species at risk.  Advocate for crucial change and join our call for:

  1. A Grizzly Bear Protection Act – a bill to outright BAN the grizzly bear hunt, not just a regulation.
  2. Connected corridors of strongly protected habitat – particularly old growth forests
  3. Food Security –  safeguarding wild salmon helps grizzly bears survive

If you’re in another country, consider writing to the B.C. Minister of Tourism about protecting B.C.’s international reputation as a province that cares about wildlife and habitat.

ways take action

📱 Call your MLA, MP and relevant Ministers.
📩 Send a personalized letter to the government

Keep it short and sweet – no more than 3 points.

Consider who you should copy on the letter.  Make sure to add your local MLA and other relevant people, such as the press and community leaders, to the cc: list to create better transparency and accountability.

🤝 Meet with your MLA & MP, gather a group and schedule a meeting-let them know that you and other constituents want protections for grizzlies.

🙋Ask your local MLA if they will support a Grizzly Bear Protection Act and bring it forward as a private members bill?

📝Write  to the editor in your local newspaper.

📣 Engage in public consultations on updates to the  Wildlife Act (sign up to our newsletter and follow us for updates)

☑️Remember to vote and stay informed in election time!

🍿Host a screening of Return of the Great Bear with the VIMFF World Tour! https://vimff.org/host-a-tour/

🔎Go local: dive into the data of what is happening to grizzly bears  in your region and engage with your local government, friends and neighbours to raise awareness.

🏔️Get involved in habitat protection (such as the  proposal to protect over 11 thousand hectares of a grizzly bear cross-valley corridor between the Goat and Kokanee ranges in the Kootenay region as a Wildlife Habitat Area).

📚 Support independent  and citizen science

🔥 Stand with Indigenous-led and co-managed conservation efforts (like the Great Bear Sea). Read more about developing Indigenous Protected and Conserved areas from the IISAAK OLAM foundation.

📸Support sustainable tourism. Check out the various bear viewing and ecotourism opportunities in the province.

🎨 Get creative and make a splash! Organize an art show about grizzlies—paint, sculpt, or create soundscapes. Apply for grants to take it on the road & include the truth about wildlife conservation!
