On May 31, 2021 Pacific wild sent an open letter to the Attorney General, David Eby regarding two publicized  wildlife killing contests that were underway in British Columbia. These wildlife killing contests were believed to be illegal because they were being held without a permit or license and therefore contravened the BC Gaming Control Act.

Wildlife killing contests should be illegal under the Wildlife Act as they commercially incentivize indiscriminate killing of wildlife for individual profit. They are unregulated and have no basis in science or accepted wildlife management practices.

Wildlife killing contests are also a violation of public trust. It is the belief and understanding of the citizenry of British Columbia that the provincial and federal governments manage and steward wildlife in trust for broader ecosystem needs and for future generations.
